Halloween traditions are rooted in the ancient Celts celebration called Samhain (pronounced sow-win). The Celts divided their year into light (Summer) and dark (Winter) and on this particular date they celebrated their harvest, hard work, and prepared for the coming months. They also believed the veil between the worlds of the living and dead were thinnest during this time and spirits walked amongst them. They took measures to ward off low lying spirits and made offerings to the spirits of their visiting ancestors.
This is the season to acknowledge the unseen, to honor our ancestors, and to recognize the rhythms of Mother Earth. It's possible we're more sensitive or vulnerable to these energetic shifts during this time of year as the flow of communication between the realms is easier and more transparent. This makes it a powerful time to utilize this energy for further spiritual exploration. Here are some of our favorite ways to deepen our connection to the magic this time of year.
