Gibeon Meteorite || Namibia

This meteorite was from the Gibeon Meteorite found by The Great Fish River in Namibia, dated 1836. The Gibeon fell during pre-historic times, but it was first reported by Capt. J.E. Alexander when he was able to obtain samples to have analyzed. It is made of 90% iron alloy and 8% nickel, 0.4% cobalt, and 0.04% phosphorus, and is extremely rare and hard to obtain. This specific piece is from our "Vintage Chuck" Collection.

Specific minerals found in the Gibeon Meteorite are kamacite and taenite (99% of the meteorite,) troilite, chromite, daubreelite, enstatite, and tridymite. Tridymite and enstatite are silicate minerals and are very rare. Chromite is chrome oxide, which can be found occasionallyand is the main source of the metal chromium, a metal used to induce hardness, toughness and chemical resistance in steel.

Meteorites pass through earth's atmosphere as debris from comets, asteroids and meteoroids and strike the ground burning extremely hot! Most meteorites are made of rock, and some consist fully or partly of nickel and iron. Considered sacred stones, meteorites are said to have powers of supernatural nature, which aid in physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
